Phoenix Career Resources Event

The Notre Dame Club of Phoenix and Notre Dame Alumni Association are presenting our first Phoenix Career Resources Event!  This event is for ND alumni of all ages and in all stages of their career development. It is a great opportunity to:
  • Find out about the resources available to alumni in the new program -- ONWARD: Alumni Career Development
  • Learn how to make the most of those resources to advance your career or to change careers
  • See a demonstration of the University's new career services website
  • Network with other local alumni
We are featuring several guest speakers who will be presenting on a variety of subjects.

  • Marc Burdell, Senior Director, Professional and Academic Programs, Notre Dame Alumni Association - Presentation on ONWARD, Notre Dame's new Alumni Career Development Program

Marc D. Burdell, a 1987 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, is the senior director of the professional and academic programs department of Notre Dame's Alumni Association.

Burdell, who earned a bachelor's degree in the Arts and Letters Program for Administrators at Notre Dame, joined the Alumni Association team in 2006. He spent his nineteen-year career in the healthcare industry. Before returning to Notre Dame, Burdell was the acting CEO and Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Humana Inc. of Arizona. Prior to that, he was the national Vice President of PhDx e-Systems, a spine and orthopedic outcomes measurement company. He has served as vice chairman of the board for the AK Foundation in Phoenix Arizona, a group dedicated to serving uninsured single mothers and their children; he also served on the board of the Suns Nite Hoops Organization, an affiliate of the Phoenix Suns that focuses on getting troubled teens back on the right track.

  • Linda Baugh, Founder and President of American Career Executives - Presentation: "The Hidden Job Market"

Career and job search experts like Richard Bolles, author of What Color is Your Parachute, report that only 4% of hiring occurs online; that most hiring occurs through informal contacts, up to 70%.  Bill Swartz, top executive recruiter in Arizona admonishes professionals and executives in job search to “make a list of 100 companies and find a way to meet the decision maker.”

Are Bolles and Swartz alluding to the “Hidden Job Market”, those jobs that are not “posted”, where no recruiter is involved, and even HR doesn’t know about the need?  Are they referring to those instances where a job is “created” for someone?

Answers to the mysteries of the “Hidden Job Market” will be provided by Linda Baugh, former Vice President of an executive search firm, and founder of American Career Executives®.  Linda has facilitated the placement of more than 6500 professionals and executives in new career opportunities since 1980.

Find out more about Linda Baugh by visiting www.amcareer.com.  She may be contacted at LBaugh@amcareer.com.
  • George Fleming, Managing Principal of Momentum Coaching Resources, LLC - Presentation: "Interviewing Strategies and Negotiating Job Offers"

Participating in an interview is not an audition.  It’s a dialogue conducted by two business people seeking to create a win-win decision. Negotiating a job offer is not a take-it-or-leave-it situation.  It’s a dialogue conducted by two people seeking to create a win-win outcome.  Don’t be a pawn in the interview/selection process. Become a partner in the process.

Insights to “Interviewing Strategies and Negotiating Job Offers” will be provided by George Fleming, Managing Principal of Momentum Coaching Resources, LLC.   George is one of Arizona's acknowledged experts on career transition. He has worked with job seekers from all tiers of Corporate America and has been acknowledged by past clients as being extremely well-informed, focused on each individual's results.
