The Notre Dame Club of Phoenix operates in accordance with the Six Cs – local club functions developed by the University: Communication, Camaraderie, Current Students, Catholic Spirituality; Community Service and Continuing Education. In addition, our Senior Alumni Committee is perhaps better known as the “West Valley Committee”, and we have an active Young Alumni committee. We are also developing a seventh C, “Career Networking.” Volunteers are welcome to help out in any area of interest. We have several specific needs for volunteers, although members should feel welcome to volunteer in ANY area that interests them.
Camaraderie
- Watch Parties -
Football Watch Parties are one the Phoenix Club’s signature events!
Volunteer opportunities include helping run the watch parties at both
the Scottsdale and Mesa locations, which would include greeting fans,
putting up decorations, running trivia contests, announcing club events,
playing music at time outs and half time. Volunteers are welcome
to sign up on a game by game basis.
- Monthly Luncheons - The Club’s monthly luncheons are a long standing tradition. The luncheons are held every month on the second Friday of the month at the University Club downtown and usually include a local speaker of interest to the Club’s members. The Club is currently looking for a chairperson to line up speakers, promote and attend the luncheons. These duties can be split among volunteers, depending on interest.
- UND Night - Universal Notre Dame night is a tradition of the many clubs of the
Alumni Association worldwide. Each year the University sends a
representative to visit with our Club and deliver a
“State of the University” address. We generally hold a dinner
along with the presentation, provide Club updates and recognize a distinguished
alumnus from our Club. The event is usually held in the
spring. Volunteers are welcome to assist with the event planning,
selection of and coordination with event location, and coordination
of travel plans with the University representative.
If you are interested in any of these activities (or would like to be involved with or start new events in this area), please contact Don Aspito at camaraderie@ndclubofphoenix.com.
Career Networking
Catholic Spirituality
-
Communion Breakfast
- Traveling Mass
Continuing Education
-
Excellence in Teaching - The Club sponsors area high school teachers for the Excellence in Teaching Conference at Notre Dame in October. Volunteers are needed to help publicize this event and to participate in the selection board that chooses the teachers from the pool of applicants.
- Hesburgh Lectures
Communications
- Website - Our Website is the central place for news and announcements regarding the Club and requires continual review and up-date. Volunteers are welcome to help with site maintenance and updates, along with site design.
- Newsletter - The Club’s quarterly newsletter is one of the primary means of
communication between the Club and its members. Volunteers can help
communicate with the committees to gather news, edit and assist with
publishing. The design of the newsletter requires attention and
renovation from time to time; assistance is welcome here as well.
- Facebook - Facebook is the Club's newest communication medium. Volunteers can help post events, pictures, as well as monitor the group to make sure any discussions are appropriate.
- E-Mail List - The Club sends out broadcast e-mails to our members twice a month. Volunteers communicating with the committees to gather news can also assist with these timely email communications.
- Other Club Publications - The Club also produces several other publications, including the Dues Letter, a guide to the Club along with various postcards and mailings. Volunteers are welcome to help with the design and production of these publications.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Marc Echeveste at communications@ndclubofphoenix.com
Community Service - There are many opportunities to volunteer through the
Phoenix Club of Notre Dame. The Club regularly sponsors two important service
agencies in the Phoenix area: Andre House and Maggie’s Place. Andre House
provides many different services to the poor and homeless of downtown Phoenix.
- Andre House - Each
month that a fifth Wednesday occurs, the Club sends members to Andre House in
order to help serve dinner to hundreds of homeless in the area. Our next date
to serve is Wednesday, September 30. If you are interested in other dates of
volunteering, please call Teresa Hipp, the volunteer coordinator at 602-255-0580 (ext 302). For further information regarding
Andre House and ways to get involved, please visit the website at: www.andrehouse.org.
- Maggie's Place - Maggie’s Place is the other
major organization in which Club members can regularly volunteer. Maggie’s
Place is a home for pregnant women who are in need of a supportive place to
live during their pregnancy, and there are three homes located within the
Phoenix area. Each home holds a “Work Saturday” one Saturday a month. During
these Work Saturdays volunteers are asked to help with various cleaning
projects, building projects, orgnization tasks, and yardwork in order to
beautify the homes. Members of the Phoenix Club have participated in these Work
Saturdays throughout the year. For more information on ways to volunteer,
please call (602)- 262-5555, or visit the website at: www.maggiesplace.org.
Members may also
check the community service page on the Club’s website for more information
regarding ways to serve in the community. For questions, please contact the
service chair, Leslie Pechkurow, at service@ndclubofphoenix.com.
