Hesburgh Lectures Lifelong learning is a key aspect of a lifelong relationship with the University. The Notre Dame Club of Phoenix sponsors two Hesburgh Lectures each year, in the spring and fall. The Hesburgh Lecture Series brings a taste of Notre Dame's academic excellence to valley alumni and the local communities by bringing distinguished Notre Dame professors to discuss various topics. The Hesburgh Lectures are open to the public and are offered free of charge.
Our Spring 2008 Lecture featured Professor Harvey Bender, who presented the topic: Genetic Enhancement and the Brave New Millennium: Science, Politics and the Human Genome.
Excellence In Teaching
Our 2007 attendees commented on the conference: "Even after 23 years of teaching... I still learned something new... The conference taught me something about myself as well as my students."
"I was blown away with all the little strategies that I (learned to) improve student achievement."
"The interactive approach to the conference emphasized key concepts and fostered a sense of community among the participants in only a couple of days. There was a knowing laughter, teamork, sharing, and a spirit of togetherness that I have not seen at any other conference in my 12 years of teaching."

OpenCourseWare In addition to the Club's activities, Notre Dame participates in the OpenCourseWare Consortium, which allows free public access to course materials from a number of colleges and universities around the world. With OCW, you can follow a number of classes at Notre Dame in a variety of subjects, with access to the same course material, readings, and discussion questions used in the classes on campus. You can also follow classes at other member institutions, such as MIT and UC Berkeley. You can find out more about Notre Dame OCW here.
