Community Service

Chairperson: Leslie Pechkurow '04

The Notre Dame Club of Phoenix values service as an important way to reach out to the community in which we live. Our club regularly participates in service projects throughout the year, including the Hospital Support Program, Thirst Aid, Christmas Toy Drive as well as serving at Andre House and Maggie’s Place.

The Club supports four organizations both through financial donations and volunteer opportunities: André  HouseMaggie’s PlaceSt. Joseph the Worker and the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation.  You can read more about each of the Club Charities here.

In addition, the Notre Dame Club of Phoenix also provides scholarships to three Summer Service Students to live and work at Andre House and Maggie’s Place during their summer months between semesters. This money enables the students to engage in service for the summer and also provides extra helping hands to these two organizations.

Other events the Club has participated in include volunteering at St. Gregory’s Parish in downtown Phoenix, managing a drive for water during the hot summer months, and holding a toy drive for various local agencies at Christmas time.

The Notre Dame Club of Phoenix encourages all members to help support our community and to participate in the service events that are planned. For any questions or suggestions, please contact Leslie Pechkurow at service@ndclubofphoenix.com.

Hands & Hope for Haiti
This fall, ND alumni and current students will join together to collect 25,000 pounds of clothing for the people of Haiti. The Hands & Hope for Haiti clothing drive will take place on campus from Oct. 4 until the ND-Pittsburgh football game (Nov. 1).

There will be a friendly competition between alumni and current students to see which group can collect the most clothing. The type of clothing that is needed is good quality spring and summer clothing, as well as very gently used footwear. (Please note: winter clothing, as well as clothing in extra large sizes, will not be usable to the people of Haiti, therefore we ask that these be excluded from your contributions.)

Please help the people of Haiti by bringing clothing to the game watches in order to be donated. We hope to join together with other alumni in order to collect more clothing than the students, but more importantly, we would like to be able to provide support and resources to those in need. Thanks for your help!
